I’m currently exchanging a mattress which felt (still does) great in store but after a few weeks the top “actigel” layer had worn in enough that the sprung layer was noticeable and was far too firm for side sleeping. We bought a sub $1000 mattress from Costco 2 years ago. Unbelievably they took it back when it turned into a hammock after 18 months. They even came and picked it up. With that kind of guarantee we had no problem pulling the trigger on another mattress from Costco. This one is firmer so we’re hoping it holds up

I've had the Winkbed for 4 years and it's been great. Also, their customer service was great. I ordered the Plus (because I'm tall and very fat) and it was too firm. Contacted support and they sent out a Firm which was perfect for me. I sleep alone (see reason for ordering the Plus) and every 5 or 6 months my spot starts to be a little sunken, so I rotate it and that works great. I also got the bed frame thing that goes up and I really like being able to sit up in bed without having 12 pillows. My pillows are the Sleep Number Comfort Fit Classic and I love them.

Casper for the win, I got the first one on this list : (its analysis of all users posts just like this one, asking what's the best mattress, super helpful) and I dig it so far, I had back pain for a while but with this I sleep so good on this thing and much less back pain, it's also half the price of same quality mattresses.

Tempur-Pedic is one of those things you hate until you try it. I used to clown on my parents for spending thousands on a mattress. Then I actually slept on theirs for a week when visiting and holy sh*t. It’s like sleeping in zero gravity. I bought the Tempur ProAdapt medium when I got home. It hurt my wallet badly but three years later it still feels brand new. I move around a lot in my sleep and my partner doesn’t feel a thing. Only downside: moving it into the house was like wrangling a drunk walrus.

For my husband and I we went to a hotel that had an amaaaazing mattress (firm with just the right amount of give) and then tried to buy one that felt like that. We missed the mark somewhat and ended up with a much softer mattress but it still is amazing and we love our bed so much. We got it like 2 years ago now.

After some thinking I think the original feel we wanted would have been a latex mattress. We went with a Tempur pedic instead because we tried it at the mattress store and liked it. I did think it was softer than the one we originally tried but it's still very nice!

I was worried the Tempur pedic would be too hot because I run hot at night. It does trap heat but it turns out all I need to do is throw off the blanket for a little bit.

Our sleep has improved a lot with the new mattress since there's like zero motion transfer so I can't feel my husband rolling around at night.

Anyway so my advice is just to go to the mattress store, try out beds, and think about the characteristics of the comfiest mattress you've ever slept on.
