Cozy Game Recommendations for Farming, Stories, and Exploration

Good cozy game recommendations include Stardew Valley, Spiritfarer, My Time at Sandrock, Cozy Grove, A Short Hike, Lil Gator Game, and Unpacking. Stardew Valley fits players who want farming and regular content updates. Spiritfarer fits players who want an emotional story with resource management. My Time at Sandrock gives players farming, romance, horses, city projects, and friendly characters.

Stardew Valley is the most familiar pick in the group, and users often rank it as a top cozy game. Players can farm and work through a large set of tasks while the game continues to receive content updates. The fast days and long task list can also make the game feel stressful, especially for players who do not use mods.

Spiritfarer gives players a more emotional kind of cozy game. Players manage resources while they follow a story with a strong soundtrack. My Time at Sandrock gives players a larger world with nonplayer characters, romance, farming, horses, city help, and a cute story. It builds on My Time at Portia, though some users found both games hard to get into.

Cozy Grove gives players a low stress daily routine on a haunted island, where they help ghost bears. A Short Hike and Lil Gator Game suit players who want relaxed exploration and a light sense of adventure. Unpacking takes a different path, as players organize belongings and spaces while the items tell a story without spoken words.

Palia received mixed reactions. Some users enjoyed decorating, cooking, playing the card game, and helping other players hunt, catch bugs, and fish. Other users felt disappointed by bugs and by the focus on microtransactions over story progress. My Time at Portia also had performance problems on Switch, and some users could not get into either Portia or Sandrock.

I think us cozy games fans have a tendency to err on the extra-positive side because just like we want to see in a game, we want to make that same nice feeling in real life! But a game having the title of cozy doesn't mean it's exempt from issues.

I want to go first to make everyone feel more comfortable, but I might be too picky on games to have anything very strong to say here... I'll do my best.

Yonder: the Cloud Catcher Chronicles couldn't really hold my attention. I felt like I was just wandering around aimlessly.

I loved My Time at Portia enough to buy Sandrock, but I started with the switch version of MTAP and let me tell you: it is absolute buggy garbage. Buy it on PC or it's not worth it.

So please, tell me what cozy games you saw recommended & thought didn't live up to the hype, because I'm looking for a new game and hate wasting money. (If any of you have specifically played Out and About, please brutally tell me how it is, I desperately want a foraging-centric game...)

Don’t come for me but Stardew Valley stresses me out. The days go by too quickly! I feel like I split a rock and the day is half gone. And I don’t have a way to play with mods.

Stardew Valley. It’s the cliche answer but I still think it’s the best one.

I'm in a gaming rut and am looking for something to get into. I'm curious as to everyone's favorite games they have played. Any platform.

Looking for recommendations! I have a switch, and I’m really enjoying A Short Hike. Looking for similar cozy games. I’ve tried Animal Crossing NH, but I’ve found it to be really boring, mostly because I don’t enjoy decorating. I love games with clear goals and tasks but not super stressful. Any thoughts appreciated!

If you wanna feel something spiritfarer is a great one.

Current obsession: Cult of the lamb, all time obsession: Stardew Valley

My time at sandrock. I love the game. Nice npcs, romance, helping in the city, farming. Horses. Cute story. I just love the game so much. Also they should release their new game this year. My time at evershine.

Coral island. So cozy.

Stardew Valley! It’s my most played game by far. Logged over 400 hours compared to 50 or less for all my other games. It’s the best

Hot take but Portia and Sandrock. I WANT to love those games. On paper I should love them. But for some reason I just cannot get into either of them??? I've tried multiple times with both, I just can't get into the flow

I'm still gonna buy Evershine though

Spiritfairer will definitely make you feel something! Quite cozy, the soundtrack is awesome, and the story is amazing

COZY GROVE! You’re a Girl Scout who gets to help ghost bears on a haunted island. I can only vouch for the first one, have not played the second yet.

If you’re a fan of Pokémon, it doesn’t get better than the Pokémon Snap entries.

In your opinion, what is the best cozy game you’ve played? I know this is a such a vast answer but I’m curious, what is your ultimate game?

My favourite so far is Wylde Flowers, but I have the most hours on Bear and Breakfast so far.

New to the sub, and really think it's great. Lots of posts are games in development. Which ones did you play and actually enjoy after they released?

Im newer to the cozy games concept but realize I 3 played a few of them.

I'd really.pile to play a new one (new for me), that really makes me feel some emotions, not just something relaxing.

It could be the story: something like beacon pines, where the chatacrts made me care about them & what they were going through, and also the overall story with the sense ways wanting to know what was coming next.

It could also be the gameplay: like breath of the wild where I was always feeling a sense one wonder at discovering something new. (I also grew up with Zelda since the 80's). The story, while simple, also had a grand sense, and feeling. A Short Hike and Lil Gator Game also brought out that same feeling.

Outside of sports and RTS games, Ive liked every genre I played. So I'm.open to anything, but really just looking for a relaxing game that makes me feel something.

Animal Crossing New Horizons. Am I on my fifth island? Yes. Yes I am.

I was so disappointed with Palia. I deeply enjoyed decorating my place, cooking, playing the card game, and helping other players hunt and catch bugs and fish. It was heartbreaking when I accepted that the devs would never fix the onslaught of constant bugs.

Any “cozy” type game recommendations?

Already play Disney dreamlight valley
Wasn’t a big fan of stardew or Minecraft

Any recommendations appreciated!

Spiritfarer might make you feel something. You have to take care of spirits and guide them to the afterlife.

Lil Gator Game is on the same wave length as A Short Hike.

It's slightly more talky but I adore Frog Detective. So cute and goofy without overstaying its welcome.

Toem may also interest you.

Honestly, there are a good deal of short and sweet indies on Switch, you're in for a treat!

If you’re looking for a chill one, Unpacking is fun! They do an excellent job at showing-not-telling a story through the items/spaces you’re in
