3 Best Sites for Gaming News Without Clickbait

Game Can't uses a pretty misleading title to only let it be a announcement for a new character being released for the PR Legacy Wars game.

I haven't downloaded anything since the old deminoid days, lol. It's been a long time, and I have no clue what sites are out there. When I look for content, I am mostly interested in movies, but I also like some TV shows and audiobooks. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I was listening to a Sam Cole from 404 Media interviewing Maddy Myers, an early-days feminist gaming journalist. She was talking about writing for all these sites that used to be good, like Kotaku and the Mary Sue, but got taken over by private equity and became largely soulless. I realized I stopped reading all of those a long time ago, but that's where I used to get my gaming news.

Maddy is one of the cofounders of The Mothership, which I'm now reading.

What are some other good sites?

Hello, i used to read PC Gamer everyday for years, but now i can't anymore, click bait news titles, dsiguised ads, not so disguised ads, articles that looks like a blog post from a teenager etc. i just can't anymore.

Do you have any alternative to this with quality news articles ? Or does the era of decent gaming journalism is dead?

I've been going to Kotaku for a very long time but strongly dislike their new direction, especially their removal of comments to avoid criticism.

Seriously, what exactly are the devs waiting for? If anything, right now would be the best time to announce something while people look up gaming news.

I just never know where to look. I keep scrolling on Steam store and that's it.

I've been trying to curate my twitter and instagram of just full game contents so that whenever I scroll, I would see game news. But the moment I like one food post, my algorithm changes 😩

I like SkillUp on Youtube. They started a website called This Week In Video Games which is really cool (no ads, no AI generated junk) and goes a little more in-depth than their weekly roundup videos

Not very well.

I mostly just use and other similar subs on users and hope anything note worthy comes up in my feed.

Occasionally, I'll watch a video that pops up on youtube or rarely I'll read an article on my google homepage but I hate clickbait, and if the thumbnail or title does not make it clear what it's about I will ignore it (even if it's from a supposedly reliable channel/site.)

The discovery queue on Steam is of great help.

Also I am subscribed to IGN and Pcgamer_mag channels on WhatsApp.

Then YouTube “knows” that I am interested in games and gives me a lot of suggestions, like the videos: The best games in 2026/27 or something like this.

The game awards and the events like that often have the news and trailers of the new games.

And Users also “knows” the topics I am interested in lol

Finally my friends often share with me the gaming news and likewise 😁.

Screen Rant and Game Rant are notoriously shameless with clickbait. Best to avoid both at all costs.

I find the common known ones to be quite far removed from having anything to do with quality journalism. The likes of PCG, RPS, Kotaku, Polygon all seem to chase agendas more than accurate gaming news reporting. Eurogamer seems alright, Game Informer can be good for their cover stories, EDGE Magazine is good if you want a print.

For MMO news, I visit MMO Culture religiously.

This is going to sound super wild but honestly the news and weather widget on windows 11 comes up with news for new games if you tweak it to include gaming, it’ll show trailers and links all the time. When I was at work I’d find a game that looked neat and add it to my list so I can follow up with it later. Found a lot of games.

Otherwise I check out YouTube like Gameranx which is pretty good for news and new games, or DekuDeals gives you upcoming games by release date sometimes I’ll browse that and check out the store page.

I use the ign app because I like to read reviews for really bad games before bed lol. But it’s just really doesn’t have allot of articles that interest me besides that. Interested in what everyone else uses!

I feel like they have declined in quality over the years, especially since Fandom acquired them. There's a lot of game news they don't report on, there's annoying fullscreen ads any time I click an article, their moderation sucks, and they've been inaccurate on quite a few occasions. I'm not sure which sites are considered good nowadays.
