Real Housewife: TV Franchise and Homemaker Role Explained
real housewife

Users use "Real Housewife" for both the Real Housewives reality TV franchise and the traditional homemaker role. They discuss the Bravo reality TV series through cast opinions, personal encounters, drama, secrets, and rankings. They also discuss homemaking as demanding work and debate whether the role supports or limits independence.
When they discuss the TV franchise, users often focus on cast members and memorable moments. Some users describe meeting housewives who were unexpectedly kind, while others report rude behavior. One user shared, "My experience with Phaedra was amazing."
Users focus heavily on drama in discussions about the shows. They say the series gains interest when cast members expose secrets, and one user connects that approach to Andy wanting housewives with secrets for ratings. Fans also rank housewives by entertainment value, iconic status, and impact. One user places Nene at the top.
Users discuss homemaking through both support and social judgment. Some users value the help and shared benefits that a dedicated homemaker can provide. Others stress that stay-at-home mothers and homemakers do demanding work that deserves respect, pushing back against the phrase "just a housewife."
Users also debate modern and traditional versions of the role. Some find traditional homemaking unappealing or harmful when it suggests that a person should give up independence. Other discussions show interest in the support a homemaker can provide, so users give the term different meanings in the TV and homemaking conversations.

Unfortunately, my encounter was one of the rudest encounters I’ve ever had with any human being out in public.
I have to set the scene so y’all can fully imagine the scenario. I got off work and ran to target to pick up my prescription at the cvs there. The target was dead and the pharmacy was also dead. Aside from the 2 pharmacists, the only other person there was a young man sitting in a chair on his phone waiting while his prescription was being filled. Super slow.
I go up and 1 of the 2 pharmacists comes over to check me out while the other once continues working on the gentleman’s prescription. No one else is present. The pharmacist checking me out saw my scrubs and badge and asked how i liked working at the hospital I was at to which I responded. She asked me what I did and I told her which lead to her asking what kind of education I had because she was wanting to change careers. The same people I mentioned were the ONLY people at the pharmacy at this point.
As I’m telling her about my education, I see a person walk over and get in line behind me. The sweet pharmacist is actively scanning my prescription as I’m watching the screen for it to pop up the part where i sign my name and as we’re doing this I’m still explaining what education I have. Not to mention, I have my debit card in my hand ready to pay as soon as I’m able to sign. That’s when the person that got in line behind me less than a minute prior suddenly moved next to me.
I hear that woman say to the pharmacist actively checking me out, “excuse me, sorry, i don’t mean to interrupt, but are you the only two working here because I’m trying to figure out if someone else can help me while you 2 have your conversation.” It was said so rudely that I whipped around and made eye contact with whoever this woman was. It was Kenya Moore. I turned around and acted like i had no clue who she was.
My coworker at the hospital who, ironically, also has worked at that target for like 10 years said Kenya shops there all the time (literally) and acts like that every single time she’s there. She said she’s the only one who acts like that. Phaedra and Sheree also shop there and she that they’re super lowkey and extremely sweet to staff. She said Phaedra is especially nice. Apparently Kenya treats everyone like shit and demands people help her find things the second she walks in.
I used to live in Atlanta (well, Vinings) and had a couple of run-ins with Kenya, the most notable of which was when she and her assistant pulled up in their Range Rover at the Chipotle downtown and almost ran me over lol
Girl, you are restrained. My ass would have said 'so nasty and so rude' LOL.
My sister is staying with us for a while to help with the kids (4.5 and 1.5yo, we are paying her to help). I woke up late this morning because why would I set an alarm when the boys never let me sleep past 6:30 anyway? Somehow we all snoozed till almost 7. Husband is getting himself ready for work already. I get up in a bit of a rush and there she is, already up, coffee made and cinnamon rolls almost done, she takes the toddler immediately so I can get in the shower and asks if she should have woken me earlier. And now I’m at work and she’s fed the kids, taken them to the park and bathed them. I’m like... 🤯 I might not let her go home like, ever! No wonder the menfolk of olden days (and now too I’m sure) like it when the wife stays home, this is amazing!!
I want a housewife, and I am a housewife.
I see you at the top, Nene.
With the RHONY trailer finally out, I figured now was the perfect time to share this.
I started this little project after seeing the awful E News Housewives ranking that people always mention and thought I could do better. Have been working on it on and off for the past year or two and didn't take too long overall to make and it was a ton of fun.
I'm a newer Housewives fan but have quickly become a Housewife nerd. I started watching in 2022 and have since watched every season of every U.S. Bravo Housewives franchise, along with several English-language international franchises.
There are currently 235 Housewives ranked. The rankings are entirely numerical and based on five categories:
- Number of Seasons (small bonus)
- Entertainment (1-10)
- Drama (1-10)
- Iconic Status (1-10)
- Solo Storyline (1-10)
If anyone is interested in the scoring, I'm happy to share the breakdown for any individual Housewife.
FYI:
- Carmella and the three new RHONY Housewives are currently at the bottom as placeholders (TBD) until we've seen more from them.
- International franchises included are Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Vancouver, and London.
- These rankings are purely based on entertainment value. A high ranking doesn't necessarily mean I personally like a Housewife or agree with her opinions or actions.- EDIT: BOLDING this.
Just thought I would share and hope this brings the subreddit some entertainment. Enjoy! :)
EDIT: So happy people are enjoying! I had been debating posting it for a while but figured it would be fun to share. I will probably be doing a Part 2 responding to my thought process behind a few ranking placements that had multiple comments.
A juicy reveal but not surprising at all. Kenya’s behavior on the show isn’t an act…she really is very rude.
So are you on Concerta or vyvanse? /s
Edit: thank you for putting this content together, love the ranking
Boy the irony is lost on Jen isn’t it
Linnethia gave us what we didn’t know we needed.
Her and Tiffany Pollard laid the blueprint.
Interesting that the two with the most to hide (Jen and Mary) and the one who wants to hide the most (Meredith) said agree. Like what?! Is it lack of awareness?
I might have told my DH that I was okay having a third join our relationship, as long as they were Stay-at-Home
"housewife" work needs to be respected as REAL work. How many times do we hear "just a stay at home mom"? There's no "just" about it. It's fucking hard and often thankless until mothers day when we get a mug or flowers.
andy KNEW she had shit to hide. savage lmao
Hi, my name is Mary.
I would like to tell you about my life, and my marriage.
I was born mid October 1981. That makes me 39 as of this writing. I have a younger sister.
Our parents have a traditional marriage, that is our mother is a housewife, our father retired from a foundry where he worked every shop floor job. A Blue collar worker all his life.
We had a happy and stable childhood. No real drama.
Sounds boring doesn’t it? Anything but, we were loved. We weren’t perfect little girls. When we did get into trouble, a look from our mother or a word from our father was all we needed to know we had disappointed our parents.
After graduating high school I worked in a men’s clothing store, then went to work at the foundry with my father. I started in the office, clerical work. Then moved up to foundry floor janitorial work. Then grinding small parts finally to sandblasting.
It was during the sandblasting job when I met this really shy man. I would be waiting at a bus stop that was in front of an plumbing contractor company.
This shy man would be leaving his work at the same time I was at the bus stop.
Things moved very slowly, first a hi, then a little lite conversation,, until one day he asked me for a date.
I hadn’t dated much, and at 21 was still a virgin. I had come to reveal in my status.
We dated for almost a year, first growing comfortable, then serious finally falling in love with each other.
He actually got down on one knee to propose to me. I was over the moon, madly in love with him.
We married about 5 months later. Immediate families, closest friends and the two of us. He owned a cabin on a local lake, and this is where we spent our honeymoon. 7 days of bliss.
Like I said before I was a virgin. He didn’t have a lot of experience either, so it was awkward at first. The reason he was shy around me was because he hadn’t had good experiences with women. When they found out that he was a plumber they told him that they wanted someone important.
After our honeymoon, I continued to work at the foundry until we found out that I was pregnant.
One evening at home he told me that he wanted me to quit work and become a housewife. He said that we would be fine financially and I could stay at home and raise our child.
This was an easy decision for me. This is what I knew growing up. I became what I am today.
What is that; a wife, lover, mother, housekeeper, cook and most importantly the rock that everyone rally’s around. My husband is the head of the family. He and I are partners and parents. His is the only income, so I am as frugal as I can be without sacrificing quality. I take care of the household budget. He takes care of the family budget which includes home repairs, vehicle purchases, and saving and investing. Since neither of us are investment professionals we hire one.
We have two boys, 12 and 15. I am an accomplished cook, can clean our home in an orderly and timely manner.
I get up at 4:30 am shower, dress (usually in a dress and comfortable flats) put in my makeup then start breakfast for him and I. I want to look my best for him at all times. I reap the rewards of my efforts. He gets up at 5:30 am gets ready for work. We eat breakfast together and go over my plans for the day. I’ve made his lunch for him and he’s out the door by 6:30. After I clean up from breakfast I wake the boys and make their breakfast. I see them to their bus for school. After cleaning up from their breakfast I have various tasks during the week that need to be completed.
There is time for my friends during the day.
My husband has his friends, his hobbies. His private time. I have these things as well.
At the end of the day, when everyone is home, dinner prepared, we sit at the table and talk about our days, tell jokes and generally enjoy each other.
When it’s time to retire and everyone’s in bed, there may be some fun time for my husband and I. It really depends on what day it is. The day of the week has to end in “y” or no sex.
I can highly recommend my life to any woman getting married or currently married. It’s hard work but so satisfying.
